Double Charcoal Portrait

Another charcoal commission completed!

It took way longer than I thought it would. I struggled with the section where her black hair is next to his blonde hair. Blonde hair and blue eyes can be difficult to portray when using a black and white medium such as charcoal. Also, I manipulated the original photograph to make the two subjects more centered, which caused some difficulty in the shadows between their two faces.

Below the drawing is the original photograph.

Finished Commission

Here is my completed commissioned oil painting. I'm really happy with the finished product!

I worked directly from a photograph, except for some minor changes that I made to the background. The colors in the photograph were already so beautiful, as was the light. So I was excited to paint this to begin with. It's not that often that a commission uses a reference that is so lovely to start out with. This painting is listed under "Paintings" in the Art Index. The size and medium are included there.

I've included the original photograph underneath the painting.

Goodbye Painting Forever!

My painting is being carted away, never to be heard from again... which is a good thing!

This is Kara and Michelle, they bought my painting "Untitled (My Hair)" at San Diego Pride. This is them picking it up a few days later...
Kara is only 17, but a really cool chick. Out and proud! Michelle is an art teacher up in North County. They were both awesome, and I hope to see them again.

Pride!

I had a booth at Pride this weekend, and it was a blast!
I met a ton of amazing people, and I painted live while selling prints and paintings.

My painting, "Untitled (My Hair)", won the People's Choice award for the Art of Pride juried show!

Thank you to everyone who gave me possitive feedback on my artwork, it really makes a girl feel good :)
I will be posting new artwork soon on my "Gallery" page, which you can reach by clicking on the "Art Index" tab on the top right side of this blog.

Photos taken in Thailand

I thought that I lost these photos when my camera's chip decided to fail on me... but I found them saved on a CD.
I guess I'm more organized then I thought.
Here are a couple, the rest are under my Photography tab. I picked my favorites from the 800+ that I took while I was there.

Photography

I re-scanned a bunch of my black and white photography from college, and some new photos I've taken, and posted it under my photography tab...
I'm excited because I'm going to be working on a colaborative piece with my little sister Heather, who is an amazing photographer who lives in Milwaukee, WI.

charcoal mania!!

I did a few charcoal portraits for commision.
I think they turned out pretty sweet. Although somtimes its a little tricky to get them to look the same as the photograph. One drawing is my girlfiend's dad and stepmom, and the other drawing is my grandparents when they were young-uns.
